Foreign Addresses Setup

This guide explains how to configure foreign addresses for international shipping operations. Foreign addresses are essential for customers to receive packages from overseas warehouses.

Overview

A foreign address is the warehouse or shipping address provided by your freight forwarder. This is where your customers will send their international packages before they are shipped to your local destination. Once configured, these addresses will be assigned to your customers when they sign up.

What is a Foreign Address?

A foreign address is typically a warehouse location in another country (such as the United States) where packages are received, consolidated, and prepared for international shipping. Your freight forwarder provides this address to you, and you then make it available to your customers through the system.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • ✅ Foreign address details from your freight forwarder
  • ✅ Admin access to your Courier Connect Systems account
  • ✅ Verified the address information is accurate and complete

Using Postage Logistics Group as Your Freight Forwarder?

If Postage Logistics Group is your freight forwarder, they will have already provided you with your foreign address information during onboarding. If you haven't received this information, please contact them at support@postagelogistics.com.

Contact Your Freight Forwarder

If you're using a different freight forwarder, please contact them directly to obtain your foreign address details before proceeding with this setup.

Step 1: Login to Your Tenant

  1. Navigate to your Courier Connect Systems login page
  2. Enter your admin username and password
  3. Click Sign In to access your admin dashboard

Step 2: Navigate to Foreign Addresses

  1. From your Admin Dashboard, click on Settings in the navigation menu
  2. In the Settings menu, locate and click Foreign Addresses
  3. You'll see a list of any existing foreign addresses (if none exist, the list will be empty)

Step 3: Add a New Foreign Address

  1. Click the + Add Address button
  2. A form will appear to enter your foreign address details

Step 4: Configure Address Details

Complete the foreign address form with the information provided by your freight forwarder:

Address Name

Field: Address Name (Display Name)

Enter a descriptive name for this address. This is the name that your customers will see on their dashboard when selecting a shipping address.

Examples:

  • "Standard Shipping"
  • "Miami Warehouse"
  • "USA - Florida Location"
  • "Express Shipping Address"

Choosing an Address Name

Choose a clear, descriptive name that helps customers understand what this address is for. If you have multiple foreign addresses, use names that differentiate them clearly (e.g., "Miami - Standard" vs "Miami - Express").

Address Information

Field: Address Line 1 (Required)

Enter the primary street address provided by your freight forwarder.

Example: 1234 Warehouse Boulevard

Field: Address Line 2 (Optional)

If your freight forwarder provided additional address details (suite number, unit, etc.), enter them here.

Example: Suite 100 or Unit A

Field: City (Required)

Enter the city name.

Example: Miami

Field: State (Required)

Enter the state or province.

Example: Florida or FL

Field: ZIP Code (Required)

Enter the postal/ZIP code.

Example: 33101

Field: Country

The country field is typically pre-selected based on your freight forwarder's location.

Example: United States

Step 5: Configure Address Options

Enable This Address

Toggle: Enable this address

Turn this toggle ON to make this foreign address active and available for use.

  • ON (Green) - Address is active and customers can use it
  • OFF (Gray) - Address is disabled and will not appear for customers

Important

If you disable an address that customers are already using, they will no longer be able to ship to that address. Only disable addresses when you're certain they should no longer be used.

Auto-Assign to Consignees

Toggle: Auto-assign to consignees

Turn this toggle ON if you want this foreign address to be automatically assigned to new customers when they sign up.

  • ON (Green) - New customers will automatically receive this address upon signup
  • OFF (Gray) - Address must be manually assigned to customers

Recommended Setting

If this is your primary shipping address and most customers will use it, enable auto-assign. This saves time and ensures all new customers immediately have access to their shipping address.

Step 6: Save the Foreign Address

  1. Review all entered information for accuracy
  2. Ensure the address exactly matches what your freight forwarder provided
  3. Click Save or Create Address button
  4. Wait for the confirmation message: "Foreign address created successfully"

Managing Multiple Foreign Addresses

You can add multiple foreign addresses if you work with multiple freight forwarders or have warehouses in different locations.

Why Have Multiple Foreign Addresses?

  • Different shipping speeds - Offer standard and express shipping options
  • Multiple warehouses - Work with warehouses in different cities or countries
  • Special services - Dedicated addresses for oversized items or special handling
  • Regional options - Provide options based on where customers are shipping from

Adding Additional Addresses

To add more foreign addresses:

  1. Return to Settings > Foreign Addresses
  2. Click + Add Address again
  3. Repeat Steps 4-6 for each additional address

Managing Existing Addresses

From the Foreign Addresses list, you can:

  • Edit - Click the edit icon to modify address details
  • Disable/Enable - Toggle the status of any address
  • Delete - Remove addresses that are no longer needed (only if no customers are using it)

Before Deleting

Before deleting a foreign address, ensure no active customers are currently assigned to it. Deleting an address that customers are using will cause shipping issues.
